How are we powerful partners in our community?

In this time when an open access or a Google/Wikipedia mindset says that everything is out there and free on the net, is there still a place for libraries?  For some, particularly in special libraries and public libraries the threat of closure, amalgamation, and justifying why to have a library is a real concern.  One blogger @librarianbyday recently wrote a powerful and thought provoking posting about It Takes a Library: It is Time to Change the Tone of the Conversation About the Future of Libraries #ittakesalibrary  Again a lot of food for thought but the last line of the posting challenges the reader to start talking about how the libraries are powerful partners in their communities.

When thinking about #FutureLibrary and for us in an academic library community how are we powerful partners in our community?  Information Literacy, a community space, a learning space, copyright gatekeeper, research partner, mover driver and shaker?
