What is the Librarian’s role? Are Librarians Totally Obsolete?

As we get underway a few twitter links and responses to the #FutureLibrary have picked up a Greek Summer Reading & Creativity Campaign, some complements on the concept and launching of our project,  but one posting that got some conversation flowing was a link to an article Are Librarians Totally Obsolete? 16 Reasons Why Libraries and Librarians are Still Extremely Important

Of course we recognize in library land that there are many more employed or working within libraries than just qualified librarians, and another blog post I read recently talked about qualified librarians not actually working within library, but should still be recognized by their library associations.  The question on the blog I’d like to put out  there today and get your responses to is,  in your crystal ball thinking in the Future Library,  what is the academic Librarian’s role and what can we learn about our role from looking across library sectors?
